Well, it looks like we can scratch off hopes of Home Improvement having a reunion. Patricia Richardson, who played Tim Allen’s wife Jill, has made it known that the cast will not get back together again for a reunion because it is missing one very important part of the cast. That missing member is Earl Hindman who played Jill and Tim Taylor’s insightful neighbor, Wilson.
Hindman passed away 10 years ago and the cast will, according to Richardson, forgo any chance of a reunion because it wouldn’t be the same without him. The cast had developed a very close relationship and Jonathan Taylor Thomas recently made a guest appearance on Allen’s new show, Last Man Standing.
Anyone who turned on a television in the 1990s knows who Wilson is, the neighbor offering sage advice to Tim “The Tool-Man” Taylor through the fence that separated the two yards. The audience never saw Wilson’s face, even when he was featured out of his yard. The running gag became just as recognizable as Tim’s grunts and crazy contraptions that he built.
Fans have long been hoping for a reunion of the popular show but everyone had been mum on the subject until Richardson spoke to TMZ. The show ran for 203 episodes across eight seasons on ABC and actually forced NBC to move Seinfeld to Thursday nights. The show’s finale aired on May 25, 1999 and was the fourth highest rated comedy series finale in the decade trailing only Cheers, The Cosby Show and Seinfeld.
As a fan of the show growing up in the 90s I am saddened to hear that the cast won’t get back together for a reunion or even a possible spin-off like was announced with Boy Meets World which is being reprised in sorts with Girl Meets World. However, I can certainly understand why Richardson and the rest of the cast won’t get back together, it just wouldn’t feel right without Wilson.
